I have a little freeview gizmo that USBs into the laptop. Will I be able to get anything in France this summer? I realize that if I do it will be local stations, which is fine. Just don't want to bother if we are likely to get nothing at all 'cause they don't have it.

Don't want to go satt. because don't want to carry an actual telly or a dish.

We used Freeview receiver in France last year and got good reception and lots of channels but all in French! There were no English speaking channels but I guess you wouldn't expect it. Still worthwhile though as we have enough basic French to make sense of the news and weather.

Have you got a broadband connection at home, (with no upload limit)? Can you get a good wifi connection where you are going?

If so, Slingbox could the answer - you can watch your own TV anywhere in the world.
