Anyone know anything about Soy Strip???

Having heard some quite worrying stuff about applying Strippit which contains Caustic Soda a rather risky option I found myself you tubing and came across something called "Soy Strip" I thought to open this up to a wider audience I would start a new thread!

So the question is has anyone heard of soy strip the you tube video shows a much safer application which appears to do the same job at caustic soda based products without the risk

where can I get it in the UK, does it work

Perhaps it's just me but anything that says "Green" and "Safe" I interpret to mean "Doesn't Work Very Well"

Or maybe I'm just getting old?

Caustic Soda (Sodium Hydroxide) based paint stripper is pretty mild, the real stuff contains Dichloromethane, AKA Methylene Chloride or DCM.

BTW, do you mean "Strypit", because this says: Rustins new formula Strypit is a non-caustic dichloromethane-free gel ... In other words, pretty useless.

No this is definitely Strippit with caustic soda the chandlery told me to be carefull when I picked it up

Probably a good idea to avoid getting it in your eyes, but otherwise it's fairly benign in comparison with DCM; they do make soap out of it after all. A splash on your arm may go a bit red after a few minutes, but DCM even burns through heavy duty rubber gloves.

Id not like to compare caustic soda with DCM from the safety point of view.

It is more than a "good idea" to avoid getting it in your eyes. Unaided you wont be able to open your eyes to wash it out and if not washed out promptly, because it attacks the eye ball, it can do irreparable damage. Probably more dangerous to the eyes than dilute acids.

It took five years for the scar on my wrist from Dilunett to go.... and I washed it off quickly!

I found caustic soda terrible to use, the least splash burned my arm like fury, and it didn't touch the antifoul, even left pasted on for hours!
It does work brilliantly on any domestic paint like Dulux but I've found it useless on highly solvent stuff.
