Anyone here a member of RHYC and on a pontoon?

I like the idea of a package with a mooring during the warmer months and marina berth during the winter months, though the £307 a metre looks like marina money to me when times 11......!

I pay about £1200 for the Medway Yacht Club family membership, use of the scrubbing trolley, our buoy, its maintenance and all the fees and licenses you get mugged for along the way. I'm happy with that and I think represents good value.

Add on about £1100 for a 6 month package in Ramsgate when it gets cold/dark.

I was headed your way (Orwell) but couldn't face the commute from Kent, the boat is usually a 5 minute drive and 45 minutes away when wintered in Ramsgate.

The move out of a marina was originally for financial reasons, not so now but wouldn't go back as the 50/50 nature of the boat parking arrangements adds a little variety to the experience.

They were pretty emphatic that you can mix and match the six months ashore/afloat.

I used to have one of MDL's moorings near Park Bight buoy. One of the drawbacks was the launch service tended to stop at dusk, also the outfall from the Ipswich sewage works seemed to have a preference for the north side of the river. Every so often it would get very smelly on the ebb.

Have you considered Lowestoft Cruising Club. Marina berths for club members are about £1 per metre per week! inc VAT ,elec, water. Boat length limited to 38 ft though.

Good social group too with BBQ's and cruises to Holland etc

Looks nice but their website says there is a waiting list of several years for a berth.

The waiting list is for "permanent berths" which are allocated to long term members at a reduced rate of about 50p/metre ! The £1/meter berths are for "Casual" moorings. Normally casual berths are available all year but if you are a new member the club may be full at lift in and lift out dates which are the busiest. Casual berths have always been found for members in my experience. We also have 2 berths on our own pontoon at Southwold which can be used for casual berths if the club berths are full.

Might be a longer drive but Titchmarsh costs 251.40 a metre. Friendly place. Cheap electric. And as I live in Manchester I find it reassuring they keep an eye on my boat as part of the service. Family run business and it shows.

Thanks for all the replies. We're waiting for confirmation but it looks like we're joining the Woolverstone buoy system from September.
