I need a lead to check the sentences on NMEA into my Netbook. Anyone got a USB or Serial lead that I can borrow (or buy) to connect my NMEA inputs to, or got a wiring layout diagram for making a lead?

Thanks

Lets get my head around this, you want a usb connection with a serial 9 pin d connector on? If so you will need a propriatory one with some software to make it appear as a serial port. Ive got some somehwere. You can then use hyperterminal to read the sentences.

Just thought on, you could use this utility that comes with the ND100 USB GPS dongle http://www.usglobalsat.com/download/590/minicdu.zip
get a usb to serial port connector, get a serial port plug to squirt your nmea sentences, connect it all, then set the baud rate and com port and bingo

Yep, I have the software for USB to Serial conversion, and I will read the sentences using NavMonPC or PolarView. Ideally a lead that goes straight from USB to NMEA, but the Serial intermediate connection is OK also.

Thanks Stu, that looks like it will do the reconfig.

Early birds link gives the correct pin outs. 2 3 and 5 are the data pins, so get an old serial mouse or similar, cut the connector and you can then feed the data in to the usb crossover.
