Anyone found a good flat hose

I'm fussy about only using potable water hose for potable water. I had some issues with life on the flat blue hoses, springing pinhole leaks and also blowing fittings off.

I made up a pressure reducer, with hose lock fittings. Set it at one bar and the problems go away!

If you want to use full pressure, just remove the reducer!

Cost about a tenner!

I bought a flat hose from a well known cheap shop, which leaked throughout its length. So I bought a normal looking hose from the same shop, which proved impossible to use because it would kink and block, wherever it turned.

Used 2 of these to great success over a number of years - 40m when you need it if joined together and such a space saver. https://www.marinesuperstore.com/hose/hose/marine-cassette-hose - you doo need to re-roll it back on to the cassette carefully.

I agree with that - many are not suitable for drinking water so you have to be careful with one you choose. I have had mine for about 5 years now. The trick with these is to make sure all the water is out of the pipe and wind the pipe onto the reel with tension - I found running it through two fingers gives the right amount of tension.

I have seen people struggle to get the water out of a hose. My method is to take the mid point of the hose and raise it somewhat, laying the rest of the hose along the pontoon. Often this means hooking it over the pulpit, where I leave it for a minute or two, unless I forget, in which case it stays there all afternoon. When convenient I squeeze what is left of the water out with my fingers, starting from the centre point and doing both lines together. By the time I get to the ends the hose is empty enough to reel into the cassette.

I don’t know if it’s still made, but I have a lay-flat type hose with a reel and I’ve had it 28 years, it’s always been our ‘boat hose’ and apart from the plastic handle on the reel, it’s as good as new. It was branded as Black & Decker.

Edit: That’s probably jinxed it!

I had one that lasted a similar time. No brand name but it got used for everything as well. Let it go with the old boat 2 years ago and regretted it ever since. Bought a new one for the new boat last year and it lasted about 6 months. Now using an expanding hose but would go back to the cassette type immediately if I found one that would last

Black and Decker used to be good when it manufactured in Spennymoor, but since it shifted manufacturing to China or wherever it all went wrong.
