I'm thinking on doing this to update my inbuilt cool box.
Waeco seem to have the bits I need and the job looks to be pretty simple but I'd be glad to hear of anyones real life experience.

Have a look at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.waeco.co.uk>http://www.waeco.co.uk</A> and the bottom item, <font color=blue>Fitting a Cooling Kit</font color=blue>.

It has a sequence of photos showing the fitting of a compressor/evaporator to a Westerly Konsort.

I will be doing the same this coming winter.

regards,
Philip

It is pretty simple, especially as they dont have to be charged with gas now; the evaporator plate just plugs into the compressor.

Two tips - alllow for ventillation for the compressor, and calculate the thickness of the cable according to its distance to the power supply.

Enjoy the cold beers!

Have a look...

..on the Frigoboat (Danfoss-) compressor with an external keel cooler.
This is what I´m going to fit during winter. Less power consumption compared with air cooled, no fan noise, no pumps.

I fitted a waeco earlier this year, bought the unit from Port Solent on special offer. No real problems, make sure you cut a hole large enough for the fittings to pass through, keep the cut out to re-fit and seal. Connect up all the unions finger tight making sure not to break through the seals, then make final turns. My wiring was made easier because the loom already existed. Works a treat, not too noisy, makes food planning much easier, plus drinks of course.

I installed a 'coolamatic 55' unit and 'O' evaporator two seasons ago, and am very pleased with it. Only issues;

1) Wiring runs, as the compressor was on the opposite side of the boat from the fuse panel needed a long run and hence large diameter wire, check carefully if you have same problem,

2) recommend you buy and install the transformer if you are intending to run from shore power. It only costs about 50 pounds but for some reason is not supplied with the unit,

3) suggest you call the help line and discuss your intended compressor / evaporator match. I did this only to find that the match I was about to buy , and that had been recommended by chandler where not compatable. Very helpful people ar waeco.

I fitted a Waeco unit early last season and it performed brilliantly until near the end of the season because I had cross threaded the connection. I spoke to Waeco, who said no problem, send it back. It was returned very quickly with no charge and not even a telling off! My second attempt seems to work well, and I've had no problems this season. I thoroughly recomend them
