I fancy a sail tomorrow but the family are all too busy Christmassing. I'll be going up to the boat (Neptune Marina) whatever to check her over... does anyone fancy a sail on the Orwell? Thinking of a few hours only just to blow the cobwebs out...

Simon , take my word for it , I would much rather have spent the day with you , but unfortunately other things took priority
Good to hear you had a good day though

I went out from Ipswich to Landguard and very pleasant it was too. Gloriously sunny on the Orwell until I got to Landguard and watched an outbound container ship disappear into a hollywood style fog bank so decided to head back to base. By then the fog had enveloped everything and I promptly dissapeared into it and reapperared in another dimension where dinosaurs and 60s B movies ruled and - I digress /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif . I then had the weird experience of going all the way from Landguard to Ipswich seeing nothing at all (very tricky - about 50yd viz) until I got to the Orwell Bridge. Thank god for chartplotters!! Now wish I had radar. Harwich VTS poor vis rules in operation but still several small angling boats anchored on edge of main channel!!
Just great to be back on the boat though.

We'd had a cracking day until about 3pm ish. We dropped the buoy we'd picked up at Pin Mill when we saw the wall of fog rolling up the river - then we raced it into the lock. I've never motored so slowly into the wet dock before!
