Anyone familiar with Barcelona ?

Very interesting about Barcelona..... and I think I get the negatives. The other alternative I had considered is Genoa, slightly nearer St Trop, reasonably good service providers there, and v close to the airport (!). But the flights aren't as convenient, and it isnt as cheap ! I know there is no such thing as "cheap" with boats (dont we all know it !) but I am trying to manage the bits that I can control to try and justify the bits I cant !

Which airports do you use for getting to Sant Carles ?

Barcelona during the winter and Reus for the rest of the year.
Reus is about 50 minutes from the airport
There are other operators but it is really only Ryanair that fly in and out of Reus
I think Stanstead offers most days of the week and some of the winter months.
Other UK airports flying into Reus - Bristol, East Midlands, Manchester and Luton
Good car hire at Reus and it is motorway (2 side by side in fact) all the way.

Pricewise - usual "no frills" pricing
I'm popping out for a week in the middle of June - £25 out £35 back - no hold bags in that price

Flights to Genoa aren't good from London. You'd be better in Loano or one of the other IT marinas W of Genoa, then you can fly to NCE which has 20 sectors/day each way from London

Agree with that. Apart from that, Genoa is very open to the west and if you get a mistral blowing or any strong wind from the west, you're not going anywhere. Also, a bit like Barcelona, the coastline immediately north and south is not very interesting in cruising terms and you'd have to go quite a few miles to Portofino/St Margharita/Rapallo and beyond to find some interesting destinations although these places are very expensive honeypots in high season. Having said that, Porto Antico in Genoa is a nice spot to moor and only a short walk from the sights

Thanks to all for all your excellent advice. I have purchased the Ferretti and pick her up this weekend and, weather permitting, hope to bring her all the way up the Spanish coast to St Tropez where I have managed to get a berth for the summer. I will worry about where she;s going for the winter over the coming summer months whilst sipping vast quantities of ice cold rose ! Thanks again to all.

I was in the Cogolin area last week ,early !
Unless you plan on transferring from Nice by copter or private plane to La Mole - arrive by road before 10am -otherwise waste valuable time 2 hrs from A8 ( frejus) to St Trop in a traffic jam .
Coming out not too bad it's going in that's hell post 10 am .
San Remo as JFM says t,other way on the A8 worth a look for a " cheap " seasonal birth in a 18M -approx a good hour from Cap Ferat - plenty of shelter .
Also " cheap" shore based infrastructure .
Hope you don't spend too much time staring at french rear number plates ?

... unless you are travelling solo or max two of you, in which case a scooter does the job very well, if you're comfortable tackling SoF traffic.

Congratulations! Where did you get the berth? St Trop, P Grimaud or Cogolin? Good going on that score anyway, though as people have said the transfer from NCE isn't a whole pile of fun unless you take the chopper. And yes please post some pictures

Traffic - I am an old hand in that area and that saves me. You are all completely right about the terrible traffic (and it happens all year round) , but I have learned how to avoid the worst of it. I can get to Nice in 75 mins on a good run, and worst case 90 mins on a Sunday night. It is imperative that you avoid the coast road......

Berth - In Marines de Cogolins. Quite close to my house.

Photos - I will try and post some next week when I have collected her. 730 miles from Marbella to Cogolins..... hope the weather stays nice !
