worn sailing kit incorrectly?

Just seen a photo of Greta Thunberg on the foredeck waving goodbye with her waterproof trousers tucked into her boots. Hope someone tells her before they hit rain or spray.

Are you sure they are waterproofs? I have some Musto mid layer hi-fits that look very similar to foulies, but are specifically designed to go inside my boots. They have some degree of waterproofing and are my "go to" deck wear unless there's a lot of water around. But I've had people point and giggle ashore thinking I've made a big mistake!

That said, if she's on an IMOCA60, there's always a lot of water around...

Why.................................................what's wrong with that :-)))))))))))))))

When it rains and the rivulets of water repelled by the hydrophilic coating of the waterproofs runs down the outside, where do you think it ends up if you have your over trousers tucked into your sea boots?

Er...inside my boots, obviously. That's why I said "unless there's a lot of water around"...and rain ticks that box. However, if you're out for a walk in the country on a mildly drizzly day, many people will be quite happy wearing a waterproof jacket, with jeans tucked into wellington boots, and they don't end up with boots full of water. Same thing really, and as my Dubarrys are much tighter fitting around the calf than the average wellingtons, and the hi-fits bunch a little around the top of my boots, it really has to be quite wet for anything to get in there that I'd notice.

They are designed to taper and go inside boots, and physically won't go outside. But I could see why people might think she's wearning hifits wrong if she's wearing these...

Having said all that, I think I've found the picture and she is wearing top layer hi-fits with a pair of these, which have gaiters. She isn't wearing anything wrong!
