I read Farmers Weekly and there was an article about a app called what3words . Farmers often have difficulty directing some one to a remote location in a featureless landscape. Well some people have divided the entire world in to a 3m x 3m grid and given each square a unique 3 word code. So to pass on a location you just give the other person 3 words and using the app or the website they have the precise location you want to share.

Great for sharing anchorage locations.

If you want to know where I was when I took my avatar photo click here https://w3w.co/sledges.rebuilding.nodded or if you have app already just type in sledges.rebuilding.nodded

I posted this photo in another thread the other day : I was here at the time https://w3w.co/slips.adder.unsaved

I must get the pizza delivery people to start using this app, they can never find my house!

If you want to give me a hand unblocking a land drain this weekend I'll be at contracts.cubic.beamed

That's really neat. :encouragement: Not that I'd use it for sharing my anchorage, that's a step to far. I was amazed at looking at a sattelite image of my boat that it occupies several of these address blocks. That's extraordinary granularity

I think a lot of canal boaters use it to pinpoint where they are on the system for various reasons such as meeting up with friends or even deliveries.

Niiice, many thanks for the pointer! Could be useful also aside from boating, btw.
If you fancy a non-virtual drink, I'd be happy to oblige at hinted.discount.unplugs! :encouragement:

Yeah, the boat in that spot is indeed a F165, on the sat image! :encouragement:
Mine ain't so updated - I didn't move to the dark side, just in case anyone is wondering! :D
