Anyone afloat?

Will add, that in the short few years, we've absolutely fallen in love with the East Coast... there is something very magical about the rivers, inlets and swatchways... very close to heaven when you find yourself alone and with total peace in a small creek at anchor at night.....

we turned up here just a few years ago, and were made incredibly welcome....

We do make mistakes on occasions!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Now when is the new border patrol starting up?

[/ QUOTE ]LOl...... I'll get me coat!

Yep, we're looking forward to meeting up with some other saily types on the East Coast and the dog is looking forward to playing sticks at the barbecue. We feel very welcome already, despite being catamaran owners /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif (although James is a monohuller at heart!)

We've invested in two new bow fenders to prepare for our mooring at Brightlingsea (we're currently on a hammerhead at Sovereign) and James has some shiny new charts he's been writing all over to plan the passage. They're going from Sovereign to Ramsgate on Saturday and then Ramsgate to Brightlingsea on Sunday. I'm glad not to be doing two long passages like that, I'm on dog/taxi duty instead, which suits me!

If any of the Brightlingsea residents, or any of the rest of you, spot us, do pop over and say hello - we're usually good for a slice of cake and a cup of tea! We'll be on Morgan Marine's new walk-on pontoon.

We were very very tempted but James, wisely, thought it not entirely sensible with just me as crew as I'm Incompetent Crew and don't feel happy being at the helm whilst he's asleep. Then a good friend we rarely see invited us over for the weekend for a Eurovision Song Contest Barbecue and we've had one every year for the last 10 so really felt we couldn't miss it...

Maybe next year in Oostende, when James has found some more helpful crew and I'm allowed to go on the ferry /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Last time I did that same journey, the tides worked so well, that as we reached Ramsgate, we just carried on!... its just about 100nm if you get the tides right...... Saying that Chellers might be a little bit too quick to play the tides the whole way!

Chellers is quickish in strong winds, slow in light winds (more so, relatively, than our Bav34 was). We had our 9kts yesterday with 20kts wind; when there's less than 10 kts wind we seem to go almost nowhere and tacking takes forever. I don't want to give the impression we're a racehorse as we're really a floating bungalow which does occasionally show a good turn of speed but in normal sailing conditions usually lags behind equivalent length Ben/Jen/Bavs unless we play with exciting sails. Still the winds are looking promising for the delivery trip this weekend!

If the winds are good James and Uncle Bob will cover the distance OK but I expect they'll want to stop at Ramsgate for a nice pub meal and a break. If the winds are light they'll be motorsailing which will annoy them both (they're both 'real' sailors, unlike me!) I can't see them doing it in one hop, especially as James wants to ensure he arrives at Brightlingsea on a rising tide as we discover the true depth of the pontoon spot and whether Chellers has mysteriously grown deeper since she was last out of the water...

And MoodySabre, Eurovision is the highlight of the year! Last year we were in Berlin for a month and I invited a German friend over for the traditional Eurovision Barbecue. We couldn't get Terry Wogan's commentary, unfortunately, but rather unexpectedly the German commentary on the TV in Berlin was of a very similar type. Who says the Germans have no sense of humour, they all found it a fascinating and absorbing experience as well!

Well its not the first description that springs to mind when thinking of Eurovision /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Lucy's at home with me - we'd heard about the Ramsgate rule. Mind you, Lucy doesn't like long passages either (she's not a very good seadog) so we tend to leave her at home unless we're doing short sails.

I love cake but don't tell SWMBO! Flipper will be about this weekend, one of only two creamy yellow hulls in B'sea. I berth on HMs pontoons, north side of South Cindry.

Brasso - Red Foxclub 18 - (STILL in Morgan's yard despite taking early retirement at end of March from BT) I think used the walk on pontoons last year. Having said that haven't seen him on the forum in a while.
