Flipper had her first sail yesterday after a morning on the beach trying to stem a little leak she has (still) got!

Left Brightlingsea about 1430 in a SWly force 4 (handheld wind guage) 1 slab in main and a bit of genoa rolled away making 5.5 kts to windward out to Colne Point, tacked to head off west.

Looked pretty dark over Bradwell / Burnham way so put in 2nd slab and rolled genoa to the '3 dots'. Looked at the log and I was making 6.6kts through the water (GPS was showing 7.9 over ground). The hand held was still showing F4 which I cannot believe! The lee rail was damp but not awash and the odd lump came on board but a great first sail of the season.

Overnight into West Mersea and even picked up mooring on first try (solo as usual!). Today lovely sunny sail back to B'sea before LW. Few jobs onboard so now only 1 left on list! Home to varnish 2 dinghies for sea scouts!

Great weekend. How was yours?

Not bad..... had a night at Stone Point, and was about to have another night at The Rocks in the Deben when those nasty squally storms started coming through..... after the third one at 30+kts and hail we upped the anchor and headed home....

Don't know what the sea state was like down the Wallet/Blackwater, but off Felixstowe it was surprisingly lumpy....

Still managed to (finally) get 33nm under the keel, and despite the less than perfect weather on occasions..... did have a brilliant sail on Thursday in brilliant sunshine and with 12kts of wind....

Nice to see a bit of sun during the mornings as well, even if it did fade every afternoon!.... even had my face catch the sun a little..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was at Bradwell - going in Tuesday or Wednesday /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Boy, it was squally this afternoon - lashing rain and hail. Feel sorry for all those workers trying to boat fix.

Pipedream was out but we left after a hot bacon baguette in the marina bar as it had got very damp and cold.

Popped down for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon.

Went for a short trip up river to The Rocks to see if anyone was about.
Only one small yacht.
Rain shower on the way back top the mooring.

The main reason for the visit was to find the boat keys.
Packing up last Sunday was very rushed due to a threatening snow storm.
When turning off the sea cock to the heads I noticed some water in the bilge that should not be there.

Dried it out and checked that there was no more coming from anywhere.
This had been playing on my mind so I nipped down on Wednesday Afternoon.
I also took the wet weather gear that we had worn ashore on Sunday back to the boat.
When I arrived on Wednesday I realised that I had not got the boat keys.
I borrowed some keys form the harbor master.
There was no leak.
The water had been left over from removing and checking the speed head.
When I got back home I found that the keys were not where I thought they were.

I finally remembered that I had put the keys in the pocket of my wet weather jacket that was now on the boat.
Hence the trip on Saturday.

Hopefully, the mast goes up on Wednesday and the new boat will go in on Thursday. Ye ha!

Saw Jim (full circle) down at the yard today and I imagine he isn't that far behind.

Nope.
But Lynn did a fabulous job with the Oxalic crystals and wall paper paste today. What a girl. We cant find the Wessex Teak Cleaner anywhere though....
I will be taking off the prop for a stripdown service in the week, and completing the 4th battery installation
Waiting for an answer on the stern tube issue. Applying pressure there.
Two skin fittings to fit on the starboard aft quarter.
Re antifoul.
Change anchor shackle.

Things not done:
Electrical issue losing 0.8a somewhere.
Change to Calor and auto bottle changeover.
NMEA issues, but nothing drastic just some functionality adrift.
Outboard not serviced.

Wont be launched for Bradwell, but will be launched for Oostende.

First sail of the season up to Maldon on Saturday with the tide, generally horrible weather, a bit of dredging to get onto the visitor's pontoon, quick beer and scampi, then the most glorious glorious gentle sail back under full sail with the autopilot on all the way back from South of Osea (adjusted just once), sitting at the bow, watching the world go by - well, a mad water skier, if thats counts.

The into the creek, then the problems began. Engine dies, start again, dies again and manage more by luck than good judgement, to tie up to another boat. Check everything, all appears well. Everything points to fuel starvation mmmmm. That would of course wouldnt it (engine service) be the last not yet done, on a very long list of otherwise already completed jobs.

Still, can't complain, that 30-40mins down from Osea was quite simply, magical /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Roger, should have added, Pipedream tied up on the end of B Pontoon having been pulled in by the very kind Peter.

Oh dear. We were towed in by Peter with our previous boat. Good bloke. I've always thought that those boats in the creek could be handy if you had to sail in and grab something. Hope you get it fixed soon (I haven't looked at my fuel filters either /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif)

Same here Bernie, all knackered and had enough of painting but as my crane in date has now been announced I have no choice but to push on hard to get done. Can't afford to pay the excessive charge of £300-00 when I can get it done for £20-00.
All decks and cockpit have now been primed ready for painting, windows out and cleaned, hull sanded and ready for painting, new hatch parts cut and ready to assemble. Unfortunately I broke one genoa track while removing (must have been cracked anyway) so need to sort out a replacement or do without, but otherwise on track for launch on the 23rd
New cooker ready to go in, gas bottle locker to sort out but everything inside can be done after she goes in, including the chart plotter, vhf and stereo. Priorities are all outside now. Oh, and I need to replace the vents too, whoops

Still in the shed at Fox's. Deck refurb done, previous owner's nasty sign writing removed from bows. Seacocks serviced. Shore power rewire finished. Cockpit lockers repainted.

Now all that's left is for Fox's to finish off the spotty bottom treatment, P bracket and bulkhead reinforcement. SWMBO and I to fit rebuilt engine, sort out the mast and the other hundred and one jobs.

Should be afloat in a month.

How much do you need. I can take a detour next time I go down to the boat (prob middle of next week) and drop off next trip to Tosca III (currently last BH in May) if you can wait that long.

I'm in /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

First beer afloat enjoyed in the midday sun /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

When the wind dies I can get some sails on and off we jolly well go /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Mast went up today. Should be launched tomorrow. Graham Carter usually backs us into the water hanging from a cradle enabling a check for leaks as the tide comes in. Then just a mile chug under engine to her mooring in Paglesham towing the dinghy.

I would show photos but I have forgotten how to do it with the photobucket thingy.
