Hello I am looking to buy my first cruiser but i would like some recommendations on what would be the best for me.

I live in Woodbridge suffolk by the river so mooring isnt a problem.

I require -
A small cruiser suitable for going up and down the river deben for a few miles with a bit of fishing
A outboard or inboard engine fully working order
The hull must be Glass fiber
At least 2 berth sheltered from the elements

My budget is £2000

Is it possible to get decent boat with all this for around the £2000 price?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Your budget is tight, very tight, but it should be just about possible to get something if you are happy to accept something that will need work or tidying up.

Have a look for a used Shetland, they have a basic cuddy with bench seating and take an outboard. The Deben runs pretty quickly down by the bar so I would look for at least a 40hp engine.

Hi Mark
Thanks for replying. I have been looking at a few shetland cabin cruisers that meets my budget but they seem to have 20-30hp outboards. It is heplful to know ill need a 40hp for the deben.
Thanks again

What a nice place to be at Woodbridge, I have sampled your Venue
Obviously you must have cast your eyes over the Infamous Andy Seedhouse's offerings!
You will need a boat with a bit of 'thrust' to overcome the Deben I would imagine
You mention the Shetland brand , a good starter boat Sir
IMHO a Shetland 'Family Four' or something of that Ilk would suffice, with a 50 HP on the Blunt end
At Woodbridge you are quite away from the Sea and from memory it is a 'muddy' place and the water dissapears quite quickly!
However if 'out to Sea' you need a fair old lump to push you along
Those Shetlands are quite old and heavy
I discovered some nice Ales in Woodbridge:encouragement:
By the way!

Hi
I have lived in woodbridge my whole life so I don't see it as other people do :p Yes I have nearly bought boats from Andy Seedhouse then did some research then realised I could of made huge mistakes xD. Yes the water at the deben doesn't hang about very Long so that's another reason why I would like an inside bit to sleep in just in case I get back to woodbridge and the tides gone.

Unfortunately it will take a few months to come up with the money but just in time for the start of spring hopefully :)

I have been looking at this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271651154052?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT but obviously it will be gone before i have the money but this is what I am after.

Thanks everyone

Ryan
