Same as most business 'models' these days - car insurance, phone contracts, TV all give better deals to newbies than loyal existing customers....
We don't (at my business) so long standing clients pay much less than new ones (over 25% discount) - after all, they've been with us for years so you need to reward them. Shame the rest of the world doesn't do the same.
The only issue is Simon is that a benefit was / has / possibly withdrawn, due to short sighted management without telling berth holders @ the time of the increased renewals notices going out.
The marina is a very friendly place ( read recent posts on it) the only issue is comms, & treat the regulars with respect not take the Michael by raising fees, cutting the service & then offer new berth holders a large discount.
It may not be an option for everyone (for whatever reason: social/proximity/...), but just as I renegotiate renewal or change my car insurance every year, I have over the last few years voted with my keel quite frequently. My custom is not to be taken for granted - there are 6 marinas in the Orwell area and all have vacant berths.
When marinas all had a waiting list as long as your arm berth holders were squeezed till they squeeked. Now the boot is on the other foot - up to you to make the most of it.
