Hi,
Does anybody have experience of sailing these Ron Holland designed boats, any views on their sailing characteristics, traits, issues or known long voyages ?

Thanks in advance... all the review sites I have found are in Swedish !

Cheers

There was an Omega 36 used to do tolerably well in Portsmouth SC's club racing.
Don't know anything about the 34.
Ron Holland has a good rep in my book, but his peak was a while back now, with Admirals Cuppers etc.
Is he still around?
You could ask him.

Never sailed one myself. Found some info i Norwegian

According to this post a Omega 34 have been one of the most winning boats in the Bergen/Shetland race.

You could try google translate or send me a PM (I can help translate from Swedish/Norwegian)

Curt Gelin says in his book 700 sailboats in test:

"...konstruktionstekniskt ät omega 34 uppbyggd i sprutat enkellaminat med
basinredningen som uppstyvning. kölen är nerbyggd, men saknar egentliga balkar. i gengäld är laminatet i kölstrpket 22mm. skotten är bultade och vridstadgan i båten inte maximal."

Google translate: spray-up laminated single skin, interior used as stiffener, keel mounted deep but lacks beams. Bulkheads bolted-on but not laminated and don't provide maximum support.

In other articles reports of problems with shrouds lifting up the deck resulting in leaks in hull-deck joint and associated problems. Also some tests point out insufficient keel bolt backing plates and some issues with rudder bearings.

Sails well, has a very nice interior however not necessarily the most solidly built option for long voyages...

I own one...the very same as reviewed in the links mentioned. It sails very well for it's time, and still faster than modern "cruisers" at the same size.
Sails particularly well in low wind conditions because of it's tall rig.
