Had a trip planned to Portland at the weekend but the cold weather and thought of a beat back on Sunday/Monday against strong Easterlies has me deciding to stay at home, I do this for pleasure!!

I am waiting for some decent weather

but this week down in dartmouth plenty of hard buggers coming and going

full of admiration

I don't know about anyone else but we have already cancelled our Easter antifouling, let alone sailing, as blowing snow leaves a distinct orange peel effect on the surface. :(

I'll be out but probably won't leave the Solent (based Chichester). I don't really feel the cold but my wife does so we compromise by not sailing very far when it's like this.

The cold easterlies are persisting, but they look lighter on Sunday. Could be ok for your return trip should you change your mind.......

Just been to the Wine Emporium. Went in the car instead of walking. The wind was like knife when I came out.
Got some outdoor fun planned for Tuesday and on the Sunday after. Just have to wrap up warm if it's chilly.

I'll be on the boat, with the heating on, sampling whisky's, listening to the radio, and reading various books I need to catch up on. I'm not going out in this nonsense. First actual holiday of the year too. Bummer!

Only just received the plywood to rebuild my engine bay today. Also the mainsheet is in the back of the car and the cleat to secure it on is in the forepeak. The fuel system is reassembled but probably still full of air, part of the headlining is still down, and all the cushions are stacked up in the aft cabin. There are wires cascading gleefully down the side of the saloon towards the chart table, and no way of turning on any nav lights. Trying to put anything in the cockpit locker would probably crush and shred unprotected wiring and plumbing.

So no, I wasn't planning to go anywhere :)

Yes

Engine not fitted
Mast not up
Hull repairs not finished
Deck and Topsides to paint
AF to do, etc

But on the bright side, covers finally came of yesterday - after 5 months. Hurray

Oh and I've put my back out again!! :(

But still enjoying the refit. I'm going to be sad when its over, really I will be,

Bank Holiday trip to Honfleur got cancelled a couple of weeks ago when the skipper of the day rammed the submarine barrier outside Portsmouth.
Instead - it's keel repairs. The low temperatures means we'll have to erect a makeshift tent to get the temperatures up for fiber-glassing.

Not cancelled my Easter sail. Just put a couple of iPads on the for sail forum - doh - must learn to spell

Toned down. Studland looking less attractive but we will anchor overnight somewhere. Any suggestions for viable options in the forecast gratefully received. What a bloody year to get a boat and boldly declare we are going to be year round sailors. Lesson 1 learnt!

Collected new engine today, lots of bits of wood with just one coat left to apply, some electrickery to do, then I'm hoping to get a few days in up in Wales. Porthmadog to Aberystwyth looking good just now. I can tuck in behind the land to keep a bit warmer.

I am launching this Saturday. The AF is on, the boot top was completed today between snow showers. I just have the hull to wash and maybe polish (I am not a shiny hull sailor), pull through the new VHF cable and fit the new VHF antenna before the lift in. I off to Londinium for a week on Easter Sunday and don't go back to work until the 11, so the plan is to sail somewhere before then. When the snow showers passed it was avery nice day at Largs - bloody cold hands though!

Hmm...it'll be interesting, launching a ruddy great racing dinghy for a first-time sail, singlehanded, wearing a summer-weight wetsuit...

...I may put it off till May. Or June?

I swam (not wetsuited) at Ventnor last July after six weeks of rain and dismal temperatures...it certainly wasn't warm, but it wasn't really discouraging. Anybody know what the Channel temperature is right now?
