We are seriously contemplating a Corsair Mk1 from 1984.

Does anyone know what is under the aft cabin and athwartships double bunks, is this all stowage, water tank or what ? Likewise what is under the saloon bunks? And yet again under forecabin bunks? We are not able to go view this boat yet and are accumulating knowledge prior to that. Where are the Water tank(s) and are they interlinked ands electable ? NO DATA ON THE guest section of W.O.A. that I can see. and my membership lapsed nearly 20 years ago.

TIA.

I have just been searching the Westerly Owners Association web site to see if there are any Boatline members for the Corsair. I am PM the details of the two members who have specialist knowledge of the Corsair. They should be able to answer your questions and more.

Quite suprised you can't get into the WOA website.
"Your "Corsair is one of the early ones and Westerly had problems getting the interior design right. With "yours" the main water tank is under the aft berth in one big tank. Under the main cabin berths and the forecabin berths is storage space. In later Corsairs the water tank is split in two, one each side under the main cabin berths. i.e. 2 x 35 gall (uk) tanks instead of 1 x 70 gall tank and under the aft cabin berth became one big storage space.
From memory there were other changes made from the early Corsairs to the later models but I can't quite remember what.
Have a look at the Westerly Wiki and at this link

As Owner of Woodstock-Hi CS7, an early (1983) Mk 1 Corsair, I can tell you that the main water tank is under the big aft berth. The second tank is under the port settee (double) in the saloon. Total capacity 300 litres approx. There is just empty storage under the starboard settee berth (single). The tanks are linked with a valve, which I normally have closed so I know when I am using the reserve capacity.

The first few Corsairs, some of which were ketches, had various arrangements in the aft cabin before Westerly settled on a toilet and washbasin both on the starboard side. A bulkhead had to be moved aft, which required approval by Lloyds. I think this is all described on the public part of Westerly Owners site.

Thanks to all for the replies. The boat we are considering is a late 'early' mk 1 one from 1984 so could swing either way maybe, Our previous W33 some years back had one huge tank under forecabin bunks but otherwise plentiful under bunk stowage. Will have to wait until we get to view but at least I know where to look. I will try registering for the WOA forum again too, perhaps it is only open to members now and I dropped mine when the W33 was sold back in 2000..

I was looking for a Corsair Mk2 for a little while as it's an improvement on the Mk1 in terms of layout and the interior woodwork is a little more modern (at least the ones I looked at). If you can hold out for a Mk2 it's what I would do.

Having said that I ended up getting a Sealord which is a little longer at 39' but very comfortable, a little more space and will take me anywhere. Very happy with her.

I actually prefer the earlier layout with an atwarships double in the aft cabin, but one with the later woodwork styling as well would be nice but everything is a compromise. I too like the sealords and oceanlords and oceanrangers, but in this case it is a corsair that is on offer and I'm the wrong side of the pond to go look at it in person as yet.

I just tried site out of curiosity Robin and it loaded immediately. I also noticed an advert for a Conway requiring some osmososis treatment to be completed, going very cheaply and from the piccies, it looked in nice condition - I owned a Conway once - great boats!

I cannot get on the forum either. The whole forum is down at present. The web master has sent me a PM that I cannot access about the new registration problems. Should be working sometime tomorrow.

The Westerly forum is up and running again.

Had the following reply from the web master. "We are aware of the problem, and it also affects existing members who can't login. There have been other messages to this effect as you know when have contributed yourself. To date, I haven't been able fix the problem, but I'll have another go."

Will keep you posted about a solution to this problem, possibly with a new thread.

Thank you kind Sir. I have just registered for the forum but waiting final moderator approval before I can post.I will rejoin WOA if /when we buy as when a w33 owner for 14 years I thought it an excellent resource
