Any way to get rid of mould on a Lifejacket?

Just look at the MSDS for it - it's sodium hypochlorite, aka bleach.

Nigel posted this recommendation a while ago and many posters on here agreed that it also contained caustic soda as well as bleach. I posted a few photos of my navigation bag and bleach -vs- HG and the HG was better than the the thick bleach.

I now use the HG stuff and also this stuff that another clever chap on this forum recommended:

Generally hypochlorite solutions also contain sodium hydroxide. Possibly as a consequence of the way they are made but in any case will naturally have a high pH and if neutralised will tend to decompose liberating the chlorine. That is what happens if an acidic cleaner like toilet cleaner and bleach are mixed.

Probably the least strongly alkaline hypochlorite solution is Milton ????


I use the Kleeneze product around the house. It keeps window frames, bath mats and shower curtains mould free. The little black specs that had previously formed on the shower curtain have slowly disappeared but that may simply because once killed the residue has slowly rinsed away with normal use. The "shower shine" spray may also have helped.

Perhps the answer with a life jacket is to regularly spray with mould remover and to always wear it in the shower.

I like my lifejacket to be mouldy. It discourages people from stealing it out of my (mouldy) inflatable.

I have a special set of mouldy and slightly paint-spattered buoyancy aids for leaving in the dinghy
