Looking for new insurance quotes and they all seem to want a bloody survey, any recommendations on who is good and who is cheap, especially cheap since its under duress 
Any surveyors near canvey island/leigh on sea?

Basic Boat Liability Co, third party only, Cat 2 £85 Cat 3 £96. Or you pay £400 for a survey & a couple of hundred a year after that.

I'm happy with the prices and service I get from Newton Crum, but I've only been using them for 56 years. They are brokers, not insurers and from my perspective work in the interest of those who are paying them - the insured.
