Any spider spray that works?

I have to admit that I doubted the claims when I bought them but with not a single spider in my cabin in over 10 years they do at least appear to work.

So does my new infra-sound generator, with similar claims, which I have installed on the foredeck. It guarantees that no elephants will attempt to board and so far, it has worked absolutely faultlessly!! :D

Maybe because of s###,cobwebs and nests everywhere.

we are in cardiff too. the freshwater makes for lots of flies which in turn leads to lots of spiders. As for the problem, last time I went out I unzipped the stacker to hoist the main just off lavernock in quite a chop and the resultant was like something from an indiana jones film. I dont mind one or two but when I ended up in a frenzy on the coachroof trying to flick around a hundred spiders off my head and a fair few down my salopettes, I lost my footing and had it not been for my harness would have gone over.

I have tried essence of conker spray its useless. after the above incident now its either over the side or squashed from here on in. Its amazing that I spend the whole time im sailing killing them then with 2 weeks there are thousands again. I should take my siamese cat down to the boat he loves chewing them up and spitting them out....

As originally stated in another thread Bay Leaves placed in strategic places do keep spiders at bay ..... I have leaves in all corners and near hatches and do not have any spiders below decks and the only flies on board are on my trousers. Try a few bay leaves yourself ... a lot cheaper than any chemicals and safer for the environment.

I'm surprised by these comments. I hate spiders, and the boat is one of the only true spider-free zones I can escape to. I never use any anti-spider stuff on the boat, because there aren't apparently any spiders. Maybe it depends on where you keep the boat?

In Cardiff its not below decks, its everywhere else thats the problem on every boat, especially in the sails. Even after a few weeks away in quite a few big blows and heavy rain/sea spray they are still there!

exactly. the only ones I've had below were the ones that hitched a ride in my hair from the cockpit!!

it is exactly as you say, every boat - covered in millions of them. It gets worse every year, they never really go they just hide in rigging screws, furled sails etc by day. every night they rebuild their webs. I was sat in the wheelhouse the other evening looking at them all spinning webs over every window, accross the cockpit and between the spokes of the wheel - like something from a horror movie.

I really dont know what the answer is? salt water in the bay would do it. it wasnt a problem when the bay was tidal and the boats dried out in the mud.

what about a pet tarrantula? would 1 big spider that you could keep an eye on not eat the millions of little ones. Im itching all over just discussing this..
