Any special precautions in prep for the high winds?

One little tip to keep fenders where you want them is to run a line from bow to the eye in the bottom of the first fender then through the bottom eye of the next and so on. The line them goes to the stern cleat. If you place a knot in the line where the line runs through the first and last fender you will keep them all nice and tight. They then stay where you want them to do. Put your longest fenders in the middle of the row and these will hold the rest down.

My boat is now out on the hard standing at our club.
I am happy that at 6ish ton she will not lift.
There is still the concern that with winds of these strengths they can still get shaken about, making them unstable, so I have just been down and put a long ratchet strop under the cradle, and over the decks to hold the two firmly together.

Hey,

You miserable lot complain when you have no wind and now you are all complaining that you will have too much.

Come on..it's only a bit of wind.

We have just had Etna erupt not too far from us.

What precautions should we take... I don't suppose tying the lines tighter will make that much difference. I suppose I could put some more fenders out!

In all seriousness good luck to all who are going to be anywhere near the storms and I hope you and your boats/ property will be OK.

Right..time to put the sunglasses back on and turn on the fans as there is no wind here at all today.

Do you really think it is going to be windy? Right now my windows are rattling a bit!!!
BBC quote inshore forecast for Gibralter Point to N Foreland reaching F11
But weather online show winds of 35Kts
Bearing in mind that they are all a bunch of numpties I think i will secure my boat & just wait & see what happens & listen to the excuses afterwards

This is our first year in a Marina (Cobbs Quay). Shall I just lash up extra warps and fenders? I'm taking the headsail down tomorrow, should I remove the main and boom aswell? Anything else I can do? Am I being overly concerned?
Where I keep my boat ashore it can be very exposed so as a matter of course I strip off all the sailsetc and the yard usually straps down the boats with big webbing straps attached to big concrete blocks.
When I used to keep my boat at Arisaig-again an exposed site the yard as a matter of course insisted that the boats be demasted.Despite this one winter a neighbourings boats very strurdy wind generator and frame was bent down at a right angle.
Then again my old boat happily survived the unexpected 1998 Boxing Day Hurricane in Rothesay Inner Harbour despite severe damage elsewhere!

What really naffs me off in yards is boats who leave there furling jibs up and other canvas - but furling jibs are just a no no.

Even worse are those who leave the first little bit un-furled.

I've set about platting spare halyards around furling gears with sails in the past as the winds been too high to drop. We generally Stand much taller than most boats in the yard with a 2.5m draft but can well do without gel coat repairs caused by falling boats! Particularly as liability when boats fall, and particularly negligence is hard to prove!

Why not just read this:

Wishing now I had taken off my foresails a few weeks ago but left it as I hoped to get a last sail of the season in a couple of weeks. Forecast 61 knots even inland at Fareham! Hope the wind generator does not explode/implode/burnout. Living 250 miles from the boat so just can only hope for the best.
