I have many times dried out on Bembridge (IOW) beach inside the harbour. And fancied going there again this Friday BUT our home berth is tidal and we won't get out and in to Bembridge on the same tide. Is there a good spot outside (or close by) to Anchor outside overnight and come in the next morning on the High tide ?

Cat drawing on 0.8 metres.

I don't have me charts with me at the moment and was pondering

Cheers

The bay near Culver down? Passed through once on a sunny day, it seemed like a nice spot.

I have been told by a habitual Solent anchorage dweller that you should be prepared for the occasional nocturnal rock and roll as a ship's wake passes through.

Priory bay. Ok on Westerlies, no good on Easterlies, get up close with your draught. Can get swell though.

Yes I would suggest Priory bay too. Small rocks jut out to the north of the bay but the rest is sand with pebbles. Beach slopes for the first 80 yards from the tree line then levels off into a shallow channel. If you can take the ground come right in as there is a shallow sand bank about 200 - 300 yards out that provides a little protection in the inner channel.

Yellow rib is just on the edge of the channel, rocks on the far left can just be seen.

have a look of Google earth or equivalent, you get a good look at the shallows, rocks etc, we often walk along there after beaching inside and there are often quite a few boats anchored there or on the beach. No good, can be rather bouncy, in North to east wind direction.

I would have thought with 0.8m draught, you could get in most states of tide. RIBs can get in and out OK, with care at LW, but the channel is quite narrow.
Bembridge SC also have some moorings to the south of St Helens fort which can be used by smallish boats.
There are also moorings round at Seaview YC, maybe room to anchor nearby.

This forum is great !

Thanks for all you replies - isn't this forum great ! In under 2 hours I have a image from the beach and a full on Anchorage guide in a PDF ! Thanks to all - Priory Bay is is I think. I have just been playing on Google Earth and can even see a couple of cats anchored there.

Say hello if you see me in and around Bembridge over the weekend.

Cheers guys

Re: This forum is great !

I think Priory BAy will be heaving with boats .. some sunshine and a bank holiday. Doubtless empty in the evening, but expect mayhem during the day!

Well where won't be ? Can't imagine Bembridge beach being quiet either ? /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

The Folly, Newtown Creek, Studland, East Head - none will be quiet this weekend but I am off tonight so hope fully will get ahead of some of the mob.

Hey ho ! I wonder how many May Days there will be in the Solent over the weekend - thankfully my "new" boat doesn't have DSC !
