Looking for 2 day skipper and 1 coastal skipper practical training courses in February and wondered if anyone can recommend a school in Portugal or Southern Spain / Gibraltar.

Must have a relaxed, fun to learn atmosphere; not some miserable old git who takes your money and just makes it unpleasant!

If you are prepared to go as far as Lanzarote then Hercules/Sea Master (not sure which name they are using) are very good. @capnsensible of this parish might be along to agree with me!!

I can recommend Dick Howell from Howellsail.

No connection other than myself and some friends did our Coastal skipper with him in Gibraltar about 8yrs ago and had a great time.
I found him to be relaxed knowledgeable and generally good company. At the time i did my course in addition to instructing he was in fact the RYA examiner for Gib and the Canaries for yachtmaster.
His website is professional and worth a look.
As i say just a satisfied customer

+1 for Jolly Parrot in Gibraltar - had a really really good 2 weeks with them just a few weeks ago. Gibraltar is good as there are a lot of ships there (excellent for day shape and light practice), fishing boats, tides, currents, large number of different types of weather depending on which side of the rock you are on, UK and Med mooring systems. All in all I learnt a lot and I'm going back when I can.

I can second this. Did Coastal Skipper with Rob 2 years ago after a very unsatisfactory Day skipper elsewhere. Was excellent.

I'll third that! Did Day Skipper Coastal with Rob the year the Icelandic volcano erupted. Can't rate him, Jules and Patrick highly enough. Had a great time, learned so much more than just the curriculum. Managed to stay a second week as flights were stuffed and got in a lot of Yachtmaster-type activities. Brilliant group of people.

My wife, brother and I, took 2 x DS and 1 x Comp Crew with Alabroad couldn't have been happier. Very professional, friendly, and saved us quite a bit in hotel fees by allowing us to say onboard for free a day either side of the course.
