Any recommendations for insurance

Pantaenius have a reputation for paying claims quickly with no problems. They also insure the mast and rigging which I think othere don't. Not cheap though but we thought it was worth it.

Just a straight blank response of we will not cover for winter in St Mary's harbour, same from Haven and Nav & Gen . . . . not even the offer of a raised excess for the winter period . . . . . . . the fact that we have had some weather this summer that was much worse than anything we had last winter doesn't seem to make them think that it might just be a little safer than they think

It's a standard exclusion with almost all the insurers. We're with GJW and can stay in the water the full year, but we are in a marina. If we were out on a trot buoy, it would be a mandatory lift out every October.

Finally got cover with Mercia marine via a broker that I have used before in Penzance (william rogers, now part of towergate) reasonable fee although higher than the renewal with my present co which would not give me winter cover. Also got a better cruising range as well which is a plus even if my winter sailing will mostly be local pottering/daysailing. hoorah, peace of mind restored.

We've had decent service from Bishop Skinner. They have helpful about odd enquiries form us and also when we had a £1000ish claim last year. We don't seem to pay over the odds for premiums and pay no loading for the Western Baltic.

I use Navigators and General. I have been with them all my life and find them competitive on price and very good on the couple of occasions when I have needed to claim.
+1 (except I have not made any claims though a couple of my sailing cronies have and those were quite painless apparently).

A friend of mine is currently having his boat repaired following a significant accident.
His insurers are Pantaenius. He speaks very highly of them.
He made a large claim with them a number of years ago. (Hit the sill coming out of Victoria Harbour, St Peter Port.) He was very pleased with their claims process and consequently has stuck with them ever since.
His faith in them has been proved again in the most recent claim. Once again he cannot speak highly enough of them.

The recent claim is for hitting a rock of Cap Le Havre whilst travelling from Cherbourg to the Channel Islands. Current claim is in the order of £25k.

Sounds like he needs to get an up to date almanac and charts this might assist in the future ;)

Insurance

Another vote for Craftinsure. Very competitive premium and dealt promptly and efficiently with a claim I made a few years ago.
