The battery has finally gone in my mast head wind unit. It’s the old version and I can only find a battery service kit for the newer design.
Does anyone know if the battery service kit is the same for the old and new version?
I can call Raymarine but thought I’d ask you nice chaps first.

No answers referring to soldering your own batteries or the merits of a wired solution please ?

You may not be supposed to fix them, so here‘s the other thing the OP didn’t want to hear. Battery replacements are freely avaliable, but it involves soldering. I don’t know of another way around it. I think Raymarine will say it’s scrap, unless there’s an old kit in a box under someone’s desk.

Thanks, I can only find videos and info on the newer version. I think when I get it down I’ll split it apart and have a look. Could be a new unit though….

Sorry to bump this thread but thought I’d finish the story if anyone is in the same position.

Turned out I had the post 2008 version so I took the whole thing apart. I used a YouTube video as I guide and it was fiddly but straightforward.
I bought new batteries and bearings and put it all back together for less than £100. Hopefully should last another 10 years now.

I took an old one apart before the battery kit was avaliable ( I think the kit does fit the older generation). I bought suitable batteries from the internet for just a few quid , reassembled it all and got another few years from it.
only issue was I couldn’t find the batteries with the solder tag so took a couple of goes to get a decent bond. Worth having a go.
Second time round I bought a new unit which is still going
