I've been coming on here for nearly seven years now. During that time I have learned a huge amount, had loads of laughs, a few tiffs, and most significantly made personal friends too numerous to count.

I have attended parties, been on sailing weekends locally and across the channel, and brought my own boat back from Spain with people I have met on here.

Now it seems they have gradually disappeared. The east coasters have their own forum on ybw, the Scots seem to have declared independance on another website altogether, it's over 2 years since tome went to sail in heaven, and others have just lost interest or got too busy with work or other interests.

Gone are the days ... and evenings....of spending hours on the forum, jumping from one thread to another, interacting with several people at a time.

Well that's how it seems to me, anyway. Maybe I am just becoming a boring old fart.

Are there any other forums which will suit me?

I've been told that some of those 'girl cam' sites can be quite interesting and informative, although you may need to learn Russian.
Never been tempted to look myself of course.

I think you should maybe give this one a try again as there seems to be a lot of nice people here ( along with a few eerrr uummm , peeps with different thought processes ).I am slowly getting to know the ones not to be taken seriously .;)

Just a bit of evolution Nick.
The East Coast Forum grew out of the Oostende trip, but has become a place of its own now, as well as the Thames and Bristol Channel lot.

The Lounge was the split off from S'Butt for the non boaty stuff, and that seems to have its own community too.

TBH, I thought S'Butt was mostly Solent/South Coast, with other people allowed in on the side. The surprise to me is that the Solent/South Coast don't appear to be that active as a community, unless you are all keeping it a secret.

There are other forums out there, but the only one I frequently use is Bluemoment, which is a bit slower and less of a punch up.

As Nick alludes too, its people who make a forum what it is. For whatever reason, many of the 'old regulars' have disappeared, being replaced by people who are unfamiliar. Given time, a couple of Cherbourg trips, another Mercury 'do' and they too will be old regulars.

Scuttlebutt does, at the moment at least, seem to be very 'political', granted the subjects do need to be discussed and given our support. It does though make the forum a bit heavy going. There seems to be much less of the 'saily' banter.

I think what we need in no particular order is threads on the following topics:

Bavarias
Col regs
Anchors
mobo wash
motoring cones (yes I know we just had one, but shut up at the back there!)

Best Anchor ....

Just thought that I would ask or should this be a new thread ... !!!

MoodyNick,

Please don't desert us fledgling peeps:rolleyes:

As a relative new-comer, IMHO this site continues to provide a wealth of knowledge on almost any sailing related matter.

It's amusing to read the banter from the sidelines, too.

It is true that there is life beyod the Solent! The NW has its fair share of contributors. The musters are great fun (even though I was sent to Coventry with an out-of-the-way mooring at Conwy:D). One senior contributor scrubbed up well and didn't look out of place at my recent wedding! Out of pure coincidence, another moored next me to on a visitors pontoon somewhere in the Irish Sea just 3 days later!

We also need people with your credentials to act as policemen when the comments get a bit up close and personal. Sort 'em out, kind of thing.

If, however, you still need a new forum, I suggest you follow a few of the links normally found within you personal e-mail junk mail filter;)

Not a regular 'regular' I have to say I've found people on this forum to be an extremely helpful crowd with tips, advice and, in the case of one or two, complete stars for helping me beyond the call of duty. Now all I need is for someone to answer the questions in my posts as I fumble my way through boat-life.
