I would like to take my Colvic 43 to the med next year and wonder if anyone has any suggestions on cheap mooring available on a permanant basis between Spain and France. Any comments? Brian
Honestly, you can't have cheap AND permannet in general. Most marina berths are owned privately on long leases. If you want permanent security of tenure, buy a berth. For that sized boat the cost might be €100-250k, depending on location, for a nice berth with perhaps 20 years on the lease
You can rent at quite sensible prices but you will be renting from a private berth owner generally so there is always a risk of eviction. also, there are relatively few rentals avaiable and really you have to get down there and ask at the marina offices. If you just email or fax, you will always be bottom of the pile, it's a cultural thing.
Not sure how you define cheap but have a look at the ongoing posting "marinaempuriabrava". It's on the costa brava so satifies your France/Spain requirement.
Spannish mainland is best option for cheap and permanent, Sant Carles as mentioned above, maybe Denia, or alternatively airport marina in Genoa in Italy.
Hey, I have my boat in Sant Carles - cheap flights from Luton to Reus (45mins) means I can get there faster and almost as cheaply as it was to get to Torquay! The cost for an annual berth is very reasonable (PM me if you want info) and they do a 4 year package that includes free transfers to/from Reus or Barcelona! Facilities not yet complete but OK. We have been out twice this month and are going again on 29th!
I heard from Sant Carlas and the cost for a 13 meter boat would be 4473 euros. I was hoping for 3000 EUROS per annum or less. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. Brian g4nxw@hotmail.co.uk
The only UK city from which you can weekend to Gerona is Bristol, from/to which there is a Ryanair Saturday 7am departure and sunday 7pm return in summer (according to my Aug edition of OAG). I've no idea if this helps OP cos i dont know how close he is to Brissle. So yep, sorry, i stand corrected for Bristol-reachable UK boaters, but i don't think Gerona cuts it for anyone else.
For London/SE folks btw, Ryanair's summer timetable to Gerona outbound consists of an 11.25 Friday departure from Stansted and a 12.30 Saturday departure from Luton. Imho neither of those allows weekend boating which, in my book at any rate, requires a friday evening or early saturday flight
Yup, fair enough, but I excluded Reus from the running (imho)becuase the Reus flight timetables dont allow weekend boating (OK, they do if you're prepared to catch a 17.25 sunday departure back to Stansted, which means leaving your boat at say 3.45pm sunday, which would be pretty tragic compared with leaving the boat at say 8pm!)
Yep, if you want to do regular weekend med boating, then its all about the flight times, and for most places in the UK this would pretty much define where in the med you have to go. You'd be lucky to live somewhere that gave you more than one or two options. Even then, you run the risk of an airline changing flight times, or, as BMI Baby have just done on the B'ham-Nice flight, cancelling them altogether for a period. I'd go as far as to say that Friday night to Sunday night med boating is only really feasible if you live north of London, so you can use Luton, Stanstead and Heathrow to keep your options open.
There are ryanair flights from B'ham to Reus by the way, but don't know the times.

Just for info there are Ryanair flights from Birmingham to Gerona. This time of year they run every other day so may not line up nicely with a weekend. Also Perpignan is only an hours driving from Empuriabrava.
I have heard stories about Port napoleon. I see the cost would be 5000 EURO for a year in the water, about half that out of water. Its still not the magical figure of 3000k but perhaps I am being too optomistic. I plan to stay on her for 2 or 3 weeks at a time and will probably drive there.

I've just looked at the rather confusing annual price chart for Empuriabrava and the nearest one for you (I think!) is the 15,4 x 4,3m at €5213.70 incl IVA. I pay €4558 for a 11,9 x 4,0m so it seems proportional.
ps I've just read your link posting and realised you were refering to St Carles, all good comparitive data though.
