I may be upgrading to a bigger boat over the Winter. As I suspect the handling characteristics will be very different to my current boat if it goes ahead I’ll need to get used to berthing, preferably away from other expensive things. Are there any mid water pontoons anywhere on the Orwell that I could use for coming alongside practice?

The waiting pontoon outside Ipswich Lock but tell them what you're doing and note that it's covered in bird poo. There probably won't be much of a current if you need one for realistic practice.

Worth noting that there is very limited depth at the waiting pontoon at LW

Great idea to have a practice, I’d have a look at Woolverstone fuel pontoon, can’t see they’d mind especially if you filled the boat up.

We’ve just bought something larger that annoyingly doesn’t handle as precisely as our old boat did.
