Any local knowledge welcome.

Thanks for all your help, getting around to final plans now but working up till Sat before leaving early Sun morning. Having listened to the consensus of the forum, we are going to spend a day in London. Off peak train fares with travel card aren't too bad and one of the hop on hop off bus tours includes unlimited trips on City Cruise boats between Westminster & Tower piers so we won't have to take our chances with the sinking ducks :p
We have also invested some tesco reward points in a 2hr boat trip with Frenchs which seems good value. I'll also let those that are interested know about the state of the travelodges! :o And i'll try to take some pics so you can see what your own backyard looks like ! Hope the forecast remains good
Thanks to all for your advice
George

Thanks to all that provided suggestions. Just back off the ferry. Had a great 10 days. 32 deg or so round Windsor. Hung out on or beside the Dee (?) in Chester, Avon at Stratford & Warwick, Grand Union at Hatton plus Tidal and non-tidal Thames. Not bad for a "non-boating" family holiday ;)
Best trip goes to French Bros at Windsor, 2hr trip through Boveney up as far as Bray for £22.50 family ticket. Absolutely brilliant ! It was great to see all the names of places I read on the forum in reality.
Thanks again
George
PS all 10 nights were in Travelodges and I thought they were really good value. Langley was the most expensive at £24 per night which worked out at 6 quid each per night !!

'Ere Moxon - we walked from TL on London Road down to the train station - and survived !! :p

Really pleased you had a good trip. You certainly had the right weather for a holiday.

Did you notice the Grand Union canal just past the train station?

Glad that you didn't get mugged, perhaps the place is going up market :-)
