If you are EA licenced for the upper Medway then you get 15 free days on the Thames,if not,all you basically need is the £150.00 odd quid to get a temp Thames licence which you will get from the very helpful staff at Teddington Lock as you enter upper part of river.
You must also faithfully promise not to use your sea bog while above lock.
A slight fly in the ointment is the daft Thames temp. licence period, unlike on the sensible Medway were you can buy a day ticket for £20.00 or a weekly one £40.00,on the Thames you must either buy a series of day tickets or fork out for 15 bluddy days.If like me you only want to pop in for a week, you seriously question wether to make the trip due to cost.
Not sure about your boat and experience, but worth planning carefully time/tides and fuel and bear in mind it is getting dark very early now.

"We" were promised changes to the regime - which was hampered by regulations that went back to year dot. Thus far norra lot has happened, well n othing of any real significance.

Apart from some slight concessions to those on other EA waters the only visitors who get a good deal are BW / CART customers who get unlimited use of 'our' waters for a pittance, ofwhich at least one well known character makes full use (Good luck to him). That value does not work in the reverse direction.

We will be returning "Legacy" to Teddington in couple of weeks or so if you need someone to go round to the Thames with.It is however a bit late in the year regards daylight etc.
All very dependant on wind/weather and runes of course.
Will not be fast passage, prob be averaging about 6/7 knots.Leaving MDL around 06.00 and hopefully arriving mid afternoon.(ish)

Boatone and Oldgit thanks for the replies.
It will probably be next year before i even attempt to have a go as ive got lots to learn.
Yes it was the marina below the lock, first pontoon just inside the entrance, its where Peter (the owner) puts all the learners so when they balls up you get to drive into the bank and not into someone elses boat:)
This pontoon is right outside his office, im guessing so he can measure your rate of progress or not.
He has offered me another berth further in so i must be getting better?
