We are intending on moving up from our 28' Cobra 850 to something in the region of 32'-35'. We want something with longer legs to shorten passage times and open up new cruising grounds. My ideal would be the CO32...HOWEVER, after visiting the Used Boat Show at Levington Marina the other weekend, we had a look over a CO32, and SWMBO said "Absolutely no way", (I had previously warned her that there was nowhere near as much room on a CO32 as on a similar sized AWB, but the shortcomings in space were more than made up for by performance)

So, it is back to the drawing board...

The revised criteria are now.

1) Must be between 30'-35'
2) Budget up to £35k
3) Ideally no older than 1980
4) Unfortunately wooden hulls are excluded (only just got enough time to maintain a GRP hull, wood...no chance!)
5) Maximum draught 5'6" Fin keel preferred
6) Spacious below decks
7) Must perform well to windward and be 'solid' in a breeze.
8) NOT a motor/sailer

We have looked at a couple of Moody 33's and a Maxi 95, both seemingly fit SWMBO's requirements of internal volume, but I would be interested as to whether anyone has first hand experience of either of these designs?

Also of course any other suggestions?

Re: Ideas

Maxi 95 is a top boat. Well made and goes OK. Some had a hard 20 years in Greek herds though.

35K would get you a nice Westerly Fulmar/Storm. V.good boats in the seaworthy mould. Tiller steering.

Warrior 35. Nice boat with centre cockpit for under 30k.

Nic 31 or 35 though the accomodation might not meet with female approval.

I've put in a few miles in all of the above and for me it'd be toss up between the Fulmar and the Nic35 or the Warrior or..........

We had exactly the same dilemma a few years ago and opted for the Warrior 35 and after 6 years of crusing Northern European waters (Norway, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, France,Ireland and Spain) have never once regretted our decision.

She is currently ashore near Portsmouth and if you would like come and have a look over her you would both be very welcome. A word of warning though. The last two people to do this both went out and bought Warrior 35s.

Westerly 33 centre cockpit, ketch or sloop - world girdlers of renown
Westerly Discus 33 same hull as above but aft cockpit sloop with aft cabin still.
UFO 34 but go for the cruising layout version, or Hazelwood 34 version

If you want to push up the passage speeds then there is no real substitute for waterline length, long overhangs are pretty but in reality result in reduced accomodation and average speeds.
