I can imagine actually .... so basically the table hangs on the back of the dinette back-rest. Hinge up and slide forward over the top of back rest when you want it.

Now thats ingenious !!

Re: Portable tablet ....

PC navigation in the cockpit...

If you've got pots of money (and who hasn't..?)

Fit an LCD screen in a perspex box to the fwd bulkhead of the cockpit, with small vent holes in the bottom. Get an industrial sealed keyboard & trackball on a flying lead through the bulkhead too (thought I knew a supplier, but can't seem to lay my hands on one at the moment - let me know if you're interested). Then, if they're both USB, you could plug them into the PC just before going out on watch.

A small sun shade would be necessary too (and a padlockable box to go over the whole kaboodle for when you're away).

Regards

Richard.

Have you had a look at a Feeling 720 ?
Ours had a almost fullsize sliding table, including chart storage area. It fitted precisely into the 1/4berth leaving less than an inch to the top.
It was so snug that you had to unscrew the tracks (look like curtain tracks upside down in aluminium) from their wooden support in order to remove it for maintenance access. It also slid on what looked like upside down curtain sliders.

No idea whetehr this was French genius or British DIY - but it worked a treat.

Re: Portable tablet ....

I'm considering a screened afair on the engine box just inside the companionway for the PC ......

But the real one I'm wanting is to chartplot properly .... I was spoilt in my pro days with the ships chart table !!!

On my Centaur the chart table is hinged to the back of the dinette seat. In use it is swung up and is held fast by a brass barrel bolt (? the kind that are used on wooden doors) that is screwed to the underside of the table. The bolt enters a hole in the 'companionway bulkhead'. I half-sit on the steps. VHF, GPS are on bulkhead and are therefore handy. A shelf that is on this bulkhead also has a small 'speedboat-type' port navigation light that gives me illumination at night. When folded down the table is held in place by a brass clip-thingy that is used for cupboard doors. Of course, I can use this set-up because I do not use the port quarter berth when in motion.

Since this idea was posted by another also - it is definitely gaining ground in my mind !! I will have to fix my dinette back more securely - but it is a good idea. It is simpler than all the runners etc. and fixing to the underdeck etc.

Definitely a serious contender !

Nigel,
on my Moody 30 the chart drawer is over the starboard quater berth.
If you can imagine there is a divider between the main cabin setee and the quater berth. Then a seat, on the quater berth facing aft with an infill when you want to use it as a berth.
I tell you what I will take some pics for you. its a good arrangement, with the chart table sliding out on runners and you sitting down facing aft.

I know what you mean - having checked out a few M 30's ....

One idea I thought of ...... a variation on the 'lap' board ...... fitted with side bolts. Basically the shoot bolts fit into holes either side of companionway just under hatch sliders. The aft end has dowels that stop it hingeing past the horizontal. So if you want to enter the cabin ..... lift aft edge up front end stays locked into the pivot holes.
This means it is under the sprayhood and accesible to helm and others .......... the PC plotting can be to side of engine box still allowing in / out of cabin, but visible from chart point .....
When not in use, withdraw shoot bolts from pivot holes and stow at 1/4 berth etc.

>????????

Anyone have anything like this ?
