Any hints for tips, compression check on ford 330 sabres

well, my props are off, and on there way to clements. I clattered a buoy at 26knots and bent a blade. shafts are being checked. looks like the top got stuck around the cutlass bearing, as its spun in the P bracket. Anyway… Clements are getting both props, and scanning the good one, to ensure they are the same. Also, they are double checking them to ensure they are the right props for the boat… Bit late now if they are wrong… been on twenty odd years…. So not expecting any bad news on that front…

Next job, is the fuel pumps are coming off for a rebuild and calibration. I had a good look at the stbd pump, and the seizing wire has been tampered with on the boost controller. looking at the wire its been done years ago, (like twenty odd). so hopefully they are all checked as part of the job.

Service to do on gearboxes and engines when I get back, and check valve tolerances….

(The 370's hp lumps fell through…)

Have you got Bosch or CAV pumps ? If they are CAV , ask them to have a really good look at the governor spring (blade) these can break and really spoil your day ! Friend of mine was standing next to his engine and asked somebody to start it up, the guy reckons it was right round the tachometer and trying for second spin before the air supply was blanked off !
Both pump stripped and the "good" one was on its last legs.

Had an answer back from clements, who scanned both my props, to ensure they were matched.

Power props, original monaco's three blade 22 x 27 pitch.
Apart from the obvious ding, nothing to cause me any undue grief, and certainly not the cause of the 200 rpm difference been pulled out from each engine...

Anyway, hopefully the fuel pumps are off and in the post... Chap who was doing it cut his thumb off last week with an angle grinder.... ouch.....
I think he may have got his colleague in to help....

Well. Fuel pumps are off and boxed, ready to go in the post. Hopefully they say miles out of calibration, and everything will be sweet from then on.... Hahah yeah right :)
Next job is fuel tanks out and cleaned. More to the point i want to inspect them, as close to thirty years old. A couple of fuel isolation valves to fit, and new fuel pipes. Currently, i cant shut off the fuel to change filters out, so would be wise to fit one. Later, will fit another fuel filter.
Have a box of bits parts on the way too. Some pipes, o rings, and orifices from the oil pump. Apparently had a habit of losing oil pressure from there, so swap them out.
Taking my ultrasonic bath with me next time to the boat, and do the tube stacks from the intercollers, and oil coolers...
Should keep me busy for a couple of days....

Got my props back, they look like new, so well happy with clements marine. They scanned both props, and said they were perfectly matched. So props not any issue. Also said, dont replace them. They are ultra thin, and modern props no better. He recognised them straight away as well.

Fuel pumps should be ready in the next day or so. Talking with Latestarters pump guru, he reckons that my port pump is not giving enough fuel, but will know for definite after flow tests done.... Happy days....
