Any hints for tips, compression check on ford 330 sabres

Always hated venting blow-by through skin fitting, leads to nasty oil stain down white topsides even when engine is healthy as flow of cold sea air condenses blow by vapor as it emerges from the skin fitting. If you have nothing in the way of oil staining you are in good shape.

Like Tinkicker I have always been confidant in health of your base motor.

Im chuffed. I think will drop the turbos off for overhaul, check valve clearances, and a damn good service
Whats your thoughts on the differences on the boost pressures/rpm/what the manual says....
Did they have issues with boost controllers or anything like that...

I'm not familiar with marine variants, but the road going units had Minimec pumps which are generally regarded as bulletproof. However everything wears or needs readjusting sometimes. Turbos go out of balance, turbine vanes wear, compressor wheel to case clearances vary.......

It could even be something silly like one engine on having its injectors replaced, having the wrong thickness washers...which brings me onto another thought - does the oil level stay constant in the sump, does it rise or does it fall?

They are minimec pumps, yes.
Stbd engine uses a lot more oil than port. Like i have just added a gallon to it, and not the port side...
I had the injectors were sent off last year to a specialist.

Now we building a picture, weak engine has a drinking issue, don't we all, however this is relevant. Tell us more, consumption Vs hours.

On the injector front did the diesel injection company have correct Sabre NOP data, it is not freely available on Delpi website site as Sabre used to keep it calibration data close to their chest.

A gallon in 4 hours.
I am not aware if they did have the data, i left it down to Channel Island Marine.
I can find out. I will be a bit miffed if they didnt.
They cost enough to get done.

When I stripped the intercoolers, there is oil residue inside, hence my suspect of turbo as well....
After the injectors were done, the first thing i noticed was the change of exhaust note... Much more bark. The original owner commented too, that it was the noise he remembered.... (That was the owner of CI Marine)

What did not used to happen, was when off load and pootling around at anything from tickover to 1500 with a warm engine there was no smoke. Now we have a light grey smoke, permanently, with a warm engine...

A gallon of lube oil in four hours will give you more than pale grey smoke in the exhaust- if the oil is not in the bilge, pressure test your oil cooler.

The oil is not in the bilge.
Was checked and topped up last time i was on her. Since then its been to guernsey and back. Maybe five hours then. Was on the bottom of dipstick this time.
Considering smoke output when cold, and when working hard to get over the hump is horrendous.
Will dig out see if i have a photo at home.

Apparently sabres were notorious for none sealing rocker boxes.... But im sure i would notice that. Mine seem to be fairly well tight.

On the top of the elbow you can see prior repair, my thoughts as to why the head has been removed in the past.. Cut outouter skin to repair inner pipe.
