I would welcome any comments from past or present owners/users about the Gibert range of motors boats.

Having sold my Cranchi Pelican 32 I have been looking for a suitable replacement. I did sea trial a Faeton Moraga 840 last week and although it performed reasonably well I thing I would prefer twin engines for ease of maneuvering as well as the safety factor. I go tuna fishing and would feel uncomfortable having to rely on just one engine (the Faeton has a single yanmar 260hp engine)

I have spotted the Jamaica 28 and quite like the lay out and it has been re-engined with a pair of VP D4 210 hp engines in 2005 with 650 hours on the clock.

Having searched the internet I cannot find any background info about the Gibert range and wondered if the manufacture run was very short due to lack of sales because of unreliability etc.

Well I guess that the lack of response means there are not so many Gibert owners around. Well I think I will still try and arrange a viewing and sea trial if only out of curiosity. You never know it may still be a gem!

I'm pretty sure you'll already know this, but Gibert Marine were best known for their Gibsea sailing yachts - I believe they (or the brand at least) were acquired by Dufour some time back

Thanks Aardee. Yes I did manage to find that out.

I had a viewing of the boat yesterday, It looks dated but seems to have been carefully thought out to offer sensible use of space rather than the "sexy" designer look some modern boats have.

It was re engined in 2005 with a couple of VP D4 on V drives.
The hull is dated 1993 and needs some tlc. Off for a sea trial next week.

Had the sea trial and was impressed with the handling and also the general performance (28 knots at WOT.)

Made an offer subject to satisfactory hull inspection and further full inspection of the rest of the equipment (pumps, trim tabs, lights and navigation equipment etc) Owner has accepted offer and agrees that any fault found would be rectified or price reduced.

Only worry is that it seems too good to be true! The boat has only been on the Market for about 3 weeks and I was the first person to view. The broker said the old boy (80 years) has had a mild stroke and is giving up boating having owned the boat from new since 1993.
