Any \'butters in Dublin/Cork or points between?

Madame is at a conferenece in Dublin mid July,and I'm tagging along. Then we are rentacar'ing to Cork for a day or two of R&R. Anybody over there want to swap a pint or two?

If its the 20th then come to the Royal Cork in Crosshaven- I'll be passing through on the way west. It'll be the blue X-48.

Yes, there are a few of us around!

I'm in Dublin, and so is David B. If you fancy a meet or a berth on a j-24 racing on Thursday night, give me a shout. David has a Contessa somethingorother, if memory serves.

Driving to Cork city from Dublin is four hours, west Cork another 90 minutes.

Visit www.aerarann.ie or aerlingus.com for possible cheap flight Dublin to Cork, then rentacar in Cork and head for Kinsale, Glandore, Baltimore, Schull, Mizen Head (marvelously quirky museaum at the lighthouse). Vistas galore, plenty of B&B's, choice of Guinness or Murphy's. And loadsa seafood. Enjoy!

Its a county as well as a city.
Reminds me of the Dubliner who was asked what he thought of Nelsons statue.

Cork city = 6 miles diameter. Cork county = approx 100 miles diameter.
West Cork (county) is a far far better place than Cork city. Drive and enjoy.

Many years ago, with American friends in the car, I was unsure of my route to Union Hall. I spotted a man walking on the roadside, slowed to a stop and asked "Am I right for Union Hall?" "You are surely", he said. "Continue on the road for a while and turn left a half mile beore you come to the Protestant church." I thanked him, drove on, and my Yankee friends giggled at the ludicrous directions. I drove to the Protestant church, turned round, and took the right one half mile later. Worked a treat. Cognisant geography is a great way to navigate.

I like it. Unfortinately we have a guy at work inthe advanced state of dementia - he told a customer to find us by "turning left just after where the old cinema used to be" !

Most cities have their good and bad points. Few have as fine a playground as Cork Harbour. If you are passing the Royal Cork in Crosshaven, call in and say hello. Cork is the home of Beamish and Murphys and of many a fine way to pass a pleasant day.

Can recomend hiring a car. Irish roads are an unforgetable experience,most of the roads are single lane but they have these really wide "hard shoulders" which are supposed to be a bit like a crawling lane which you move into if someone wants to over take. Do they? No of course not. Most exciting driving experience of my life.......get a car with good acceleration. We drove becuase we found that (ok it was new years day) there was only 2 trains a day going from Waterford where we were staying to Dublin.

Re Cork

Cork is merely the airport from which we fly home - itinerary is pretty flexible in between Dublin and Cork.
