Whilst I could go and buy Volvos own brand antifreeze I can think of better uses of my money and was simply going to go to Halford and buy whatever AF for older diesels was looking good value.

Is anything worth paying extra for or is the AF market full of similar products just using advertising to try and make themselves stand out.

The stuff in Halfords is probably made by the same company that makes the Volvo stuff. :encouragement:

Use any ordinary green or blue 2 year life one.
Don't use the posh orange/crimson/purple etc longlife stuff - apparently not compatible.
I would (do!) go to a motor factor rather than Halfrauds.

Richard S could well be right. Little point in paying for the Volvo stuff.

AFAIK the MD2040 will use a conventional low silicate type although by 1998 car engines were mostly, if not entirely, using OAT type. If an OAT type is required it should be specified in the owners manual.

The colours are not standardised so not a reliable guide to the types although the conventional types are mostly blue or green

No mention of OAT type in the manual so assume it's not required and the 2040 was hardly cutting edge technology even when first designed so fairly certain that the traditional stuff will be fine.
