Hi Guys

newbie question here,my boat was epoxied and antifouled by the dealer, the hull has no growth on it or signs of ever having it.

When would you consider it prudent to reapply antifouling and an epoxy barrier?

The current pain has been on there for 6 or 7 years

I am sure there are many more experienced than me to advise but......

I cannot see the need to epoxy again?

Do you know what the antifouling is? If so & it is in good condition just get something compatable and slap it on. If not then you may well need to paint on a barrier coat of primer first or remove it all (filthy job).

I had my 'x' number of years antifouling build up sandblasted off a few years ago but that might destroy your epoxy - I don't know!

Certainly no need to apply epoxy.

If the antifoul has no built up into a lumpy bumpy surface then just give it another coat. Unless it was something special I think most common types are compatible - just a question of whether it is hard AF or eroding type.

is it better to wait and see if the antifouling is loosing its potency, there is not a mark on it at present.

ill ask the dealer to find out what type of antifouling they used,it was their demonstrator so i assume that they have some sort of record of type of antifoul

Hang on, are you saying that the original antifouling has lasted 7 years, without annual re-application? If so, he must be using commercial grade stuff - or have put on one of the copper based epoxy antifoulings.

moondancer,my hull is as clean as a babys smile, theres not a mark on it from anything other than a stone chip i put in it.

It was professionally epoxied and anti fouled from new,so im of the mind to wait and see.Maybee as it was the boat show demonstrator, someone used industrial strenght antifoull. It also spent 8 months of the year on dry land under a tarpaulin. It was like brand new when i picked it up.Ive put a couple of scratches in the gell coat above the water line from bouncing through the locks on the nene.

baston,

Antifouling lasts a year, maybe two at a push. Pretty nearly everyone re-antifouls every year.

If you have found the secret to long lasting antifouling please let us know.
