Having just purchased a new bidata I read that they must only be antifoulled with water based antifoul, who makes it and is it really needed.

i asked the same question. you can of course only buy it in 750ml cans which will be enough to last you till the sun goes nova. raytheon suggested not painting it but soaking the transducer in a Milton solution every so often (not so easy for the depth sounder of course)

Has anyone tried spraying the paddle wheel with pathclear weed killer if it can kill weeds for 3 months it may work!

As I mentioned in the post above, I use lanolin grease on depth transducer active surface and it does work. Done this for 3 years now.
