antifouling cheap France

cheap antifouling...

Know any French, mail order, or other source of self polishing antifouling. boat location . - Gulf of Lyon.
Thanks

Hello, you have a discount chandler in Canet en Roussillon. Dont remember the name, but its just behind a large supermarket "INTERMARCHE". Only incall sales to my knowledge. If thats any help...

antifouling cheap and France do not belong together in the same sentence.

My experience is that antifouling is expensive over here, and it is very difficult to get shipped from the UK (hazardous chemicals and all that).

anti fouling Port Leucate

Thanks the rep. Michael. I will be in Leucate 20 Feb to 6 March. If you will be there then i would appreciate a chat about the local who, what , where. This is my first season there.

Thanks, Patrick Diamond

Merci Jeanpaul,

I am in Port Leucate, so I will go down to Canet and have a look.

Merci beacoup.

Patrick

Why not use the chandlers in Port Leucate? Chantier Naval du Golf next to the capitainerie. The prop is very friendly (agent for our MastaClimba) and speaks adequate English. While you are there, pop into Capestan a fascinating restaurant across the road and ask if you can go through to the back;- very interesting. An obvius Anglophile.

The is also a chandler in le Bacarès about 4 miles towards Perpignan.
Then you have Gruissan, Canet etc.

I've seen A/F in a DIY chain store, Castorama at Mandelieu. Not something I was actually looking out for, so didn't pay much attention to brand or price. Maybe it's something Casto does in its coastal locations, also maybe seasonal. Gotta be worth un coup de fil.

I used them for doing the antifouling at the start of last season. Their price for International Micro Extra is twice the going rate of that in the UK. This seems to be the same for everywhere I found in France for that particular antifouling.

If the French prices are too high, what about going down to say Empuriabrava?

Don't know about boaty things, but swimming pool stuff, liners, tiles, pumps, filters etc was tons cheaper in Spain.

Actually the real situation is more complicated.

If I buy the anti fouling from them, they will put it on for me for almost nothing. (and it would be a bugger to do by yourself on my boat without investing in scaffolding). Also I get the added benefit that they will park the boat on their bit of ground - so that if the weather turns nasty and prevents me relaunching, I don't have to pay the marina for the hard standing......

Last year, the weather was pretty windy for 3 weeks solid, so the boat spent 3 weeks longer than was foreseen on their patch of ground. In the end they relaunched for me, and parked it back in its parking space while I was away the other side of the world on a long trip.

So, all in all, I will go ahead again this year and pay over the odds for the paint, but will avoid all the agro of trying to do it all myself.

Someone recommended, earlier on this thread, the use of EU-45 antifoul. Does anybody here have any experience of this paint? How long would two coats last? Can it be scrubbed in-water or does it come off with a cloth? It will be used in relatively warmer waters, i.e, Central Mediterranean (Malta) and i would like to avoid having to lift out every year, if possible, because boatyard fees have gone through the roof ever since privatisation (Another 'thank you' to joining the EU :( ).
