Evening all

I know this is a topic of long discussion and no real conclusion but im in need of a little advice for the south coast of the uk (Hamble). I tried a budget antifoul year before last and I had good results from it but after nearly doubling in price to more than the leading brands I swapped to Hemple hard racing. I've found a huge amount more growth and quite frankly really unsuccessful for me so I need to re think what im using. Its been suggested that hard racing may be too hard and I should try a softer antifoul like tiger extra that will erode more.

Whats peoples thoughts and any recommendations for my area with my type of vessel?

thanks

Ian

I moor in Southampton waters and use Hempel tiger extra, I also mix some copper and zinc oxide (from eBay) into the AF. It works a treat. All I get is a bit of slime growth mainly on the water line. A quick walk round with a brush soon sorts that!

Where on the Hamble?

Over many years at the top of the river where its quite brackish I found the growth to be really bad and no antifoul to work. Trilux was hopless, Teamac Tropical Killer was hopeless. can't remember the rest.

Later, in Port Hamble, I had much success with the Micron 66/77/99.

I resigned myself to a mid season jet wash.

My chum says copper coat works well in Port Hamble.

We are on the Hamble, at Mercury. Not a high speed boat so I use International Cruiser Uno, and whatever it is now, think Cruiser EU or something., eroding and works really well, was lifted a few weeks back and just a coat of slime which jet washed off. Pretty cheap as well and comes in 3l tins.

However I have use Hemple Hard Racing on my white boot top (which does goes under the water line slightly) for the past 2 years running as I bought a 2ltr tin of it and I actually think it encourages growth, bloody awful.

Last year I used International Trilux on my Trim Tabs as an experiment, and that has been bloody awful. Again seems to actually encorange growth.

So happy using Cruiser Uno for hull again this year and I would recommend.

I have resigned myself to ditching the trilux and Hemple Hard Racing I have left but don't know what Hard antifoul I'm going to buy to do the boot top... (also intend to raise the level of the antifoul to boot top level this year as I'm sick of scrubbing around the waterline to remove the growth).

Medway last year, one of the worse in memory for growth, including some dangly sponges never seen before !
About 100 boats on our pontoons, painted with just about everything available on the market today.
Normally boats would only go on the drying blocks once a year, sometimes even longer, last year noticeable increase in mid season jet washes.
In my own case over 20 knots on first cruise and down to a struggle to get 12 knots a couple of months later.

Been a bit slack this year but was normally every week or two. Probably this coming season back to every other weekend. I'm at the Hamble entrance so fairly salty. I like the idea of micron 99 but it appears not available for us DIY users
