Antifoul removal

One thing I will say here is that the only, I repeat only, reason I removed the ancient antifoul from my Hurley was that it was flaking off in large lumps in some areas, making it well neigh impossible to get good coverage of a new coat of the stuff. After 2 season of pretending all was well (and watching the garden removal from the flaking areas on lift out) I (and the Admiral) bit the bullet and scraped the lot off. Frankly, anything less than the ability to apply a working coat of paint to the whole hull isn’t worth the trouble and agony of antifoul removal. Unless of course you’re into racing and polished bottoms and the like. I’ll stick with a wrinkly 50 year old bottom rather than try scraping away layers of paint again....

How different things are nowadays from early PBO! You would not have seen an admission of PAYING SOMEONE TO SCRAPE YOUR BOTTOM on here a few years ago. We're obviously too wealthy these days.?

But times change, many of the old posters are at or approaching the age where they're paying for someone to wipe their bottoms as well:)
