i`ve just started taking the anti foul off my boat , about 4 different layers, i can see the fibre glass peeping through in patches where i i`ve been a bit heavy handed.
do i need to go over the hull with a coat of anything before i anti foul it again or not, like a water proofing coat?

Ive just scraped off my anti foul and sanded the hull with a random orbital sander . like you i had patches of fibreglass showing so this morning i painted an underwater primer on the hull before i antifoul it . Its roughly the same price as antifoul but well worth doing IMHO .

No its not a clear primer , well not the one i used . I used blakes and it was a metalic silver .
Does anyone know if its worth giving the hull 2 coats of primer or is it a waste of time ?

If by glass fibre you mean you can see fibres rather than no more antifouling you definitely need to do a proper job as you have removed the gel coat which is the final sealing coat to keep the matting dry ( it is actually semipervious) you need to spot paint where the damage is with a Product such as Gelshield by International or the Blakes equivalent which will repair the damage . You may need several coats.

When you remove antifouling you need to be very carefull not to dig in to the gelcoat, an orbital sander is really too violent.

Ive not taken it right back just had patches appear that i thought was osmosis . I couldnt see any fibres just white patches like here

I took a orbital sander to a sailing catamaran a few years ago to remove the very ugly antifoul that had been applied over a few years. Be careful of the dust - it's not good for you.
The boat was a normal GRP construction and I took quite a lot of the gel coat off with the sander.
I then used several coats of International's Gelshield which worked for me. I think it is actually an osmosis treatment but it is tough and easy to apply.
I did the whole boat though (actually two boats - catamaran - you see).

i spent an hour removing the anti foul without a mask,i`m going to buy some tommorow, horrible stuff, blue bogeys, tight chest,it turned my bath water blue too.
how do i get my pics on here?
