This leopard came with crap antifoul. After about six months the whole of the bottom was covered with teensy barnacles and had to be scraped off, almost as if it ws special barnacle-breeding paint.

So, I am looking for some eroding or "sacrificial" paint, black. But on the international paints site it says that none of the paints are suitable for high-speed craft, though doesn't say what "high speed" means. Bet it would it be okay, and they are just covering their backs? Or what? I can't be bothered with all that scraping hal;fway thru the season, and there loads of barnacles in our marina.

Scuse PBO-type post, tho this partic relevant question for stinkiepotterers, not raggies.

I use Micron optima in Green and dont get any barnicles and very little weed. weed comes off after 30 knot run.

Good! It says optima not suitable for high speed craft. But if you use it on fairly quick boat with grr nearly-free fuel, then probably ok for skinflinty me who likes pootling at 17 knots so the towels don't blow away. Cheers

I've used Micron CSC in the past on a mumber of planing boats. CSC is an eroding type of antifoul and which is not strictly speaking reccomended for planing boats but, for me, it performs much better than 'hard' antifouling at least in the Solent. If you put on at least 2 good coats, it should last the season

Before I learned about high speed paints I used to use the normal Optima on my old Sealine 195 which would do about 25 knots and never gave any problems.
Thinking about it, I've only had problems since using the 'correct' antifoul
Most folk in our marina have a diver do a mid term scrap. For a 37 footer they charge € 75. I did it myself last year and it's interesting that the build up on the sides is a lot more than underneath. This year I'm going to have 3 coats on the sides and 2 underneath and following this discussion I may go back to normal Optima.

I had my boat done from new with 5 coats of gel shield 3 coats of primer and two coats of antifoul. The next time it was done it just needed a pressure wash quick sand and then another couple of coats and that will be done this year.

Next year I will have to have it taken back to the gel shield and have the primer and antifoul done again.

Different antifouls work better in different areas. My FIL who uses Blakes gets loads of weed and barnicles wherreas i dont. But a mate of mine in France uses Blakes and has no problems.

I used Seajet on Odyssea last year and when she came out for survey she was spotless. Much better than previous year with International Ultra.

It is easy to apply (not that you care!) only £50 for 2.5 litres, and is an eroding antifoul good for up to 40 kts.

We don't want a sports cruiser, totally impractical. Err ok then.
