Antifoul propellor?

Thinking about propspeed notice this on the Q & A section of their website

Q: Who should apply Propspeed to my vessel?
A: Only Approved Applicators can apply Propspeed to your vessel.

Is this correct, is it that diffficult to apply - many thanks

Clearly written by someone who has never used Propspeed! :o

No but by someone who has mirror polished props for over 25 years after trying every antifoul or snake oil before then, and one who has had excellent results in exchange for a little bit of therapeutic elbow grease! Oh and being in a boatyard seeing all the varying results of others using a variety of snake oils over the years.

Rather than go into loads more detail, the OP would do well to search the forums because this is a very frequent topic on which there is already lots of information from lots of people.

Really? The instructions for Propspeed are very specific about the cleaning of the prop before application. I don't recall anything about painting it first.

Have I missed something?

I don't think so.

but I have found that Propspeed (effective as it is) eventually washes off and a layer of a/f beneath help to continue to keep the barnacles at bay.

Interesting. My experience is that it lasts for a year and absolutely no barnacles, whereas paint doesn't last very long on the prop.

We also use Propspeed on the rest of the stern gear, fridge and freezer cooling plates and bearings.

It does not need to be applied by a professional, but there is some prep work and it requires careful mixing and timing.

or leave bare bronze? Which is better?

You may be interested in this post on Sailnet.com, a USA website. It is worth reading and going to the Pettit site.

There is a product called Pettit Zinc Coat Barnacle Barrier in the USA, that is identical to Zingaspray from MGDuff in the UK - well, within 1% !

There is zinc in the make-up of the brass prop, and all this is doing, is adding more zinc.
