Looking at buying some antifoul paint and my first thoughts were International at about £90 per tin. Then I see Blakes at about £63 and then Flag at about £37.

Confused now. Why is Flag paint about a third the price of International. Is it no good? or are you just paying for the name with International?

In Dover I use International Interspeed Ultra (£90/2.5ltr tin)

The reason? - it works !

Mind you I've never tried any of the others but, at a cost of £180 for the year, it certainly is not one of my major boating costs !

If I used one that did not work then the added cost of a lift out/in and repaint would take away the effect of any savings rapidimento.

Being tight, well at least careful............. may have been right the first time?

I have used Flag for some years as already stated the price doesn't reflect the quality.

I have a displacement hull and use the cruising which is suitable for up to 8knts at £29.95 for 2.5 liters.

dunno, but in fairness to the manufacturers, I think some a/f are more sophisticated than others. The real question is, do you need that extra premium? High speed, medium a/f problem?...I asked around the yard when pro's were a/fing'...+Blakes and Int'L it seemed; they didnt want a complaining customer. Risk is a lift out and more work, and that isnt going to be cheap. You can see fast powerboat a/f is alot more than sailing... £50 might work... £85 does work.. which do you want to slap on ?!

I have had good results with flag as well...

Harlequin was in Swansea for 18 months between lift-outs. This is what she looked like.

Spot the bits that were not anti-fouled correctly!!

I use big ship stuff, but it's still international! I buy it in 20 litre drum, two go on Englander, they cost me 193 quid a tin. That's just over £24 for 2.5 litres.

Last time I bought "Yacht" stuff, shogun seajet, I think it cost me 450 quid a drum!!

I use Flag Performance Extra on my boat out in Spain were the fouling is high and have found it to be excellent, if not better than the brand leaders. The cost of antifouling out in Spain is crazy, I just bought my flag this year from www.Discountantifoul.com and have saved hundreds of euros compared to equivalent brands at my local chandlery
