Antifoul frequency

Does anyone have first hand experience of the new silicone coatings? Not poisoning the wildlife is a tempting feature

I have Silic One on my sports cruiser and it is doing very well so far. A quick blast at 20 knots plus gets nearly everything off the hull - just the waterline needs a bit of a brush to remove the scum. On a displacement boat I would imagine it being less effective.

Having said that, a quick and gentle pressure wash will bring it back like new so there may be a saving on time if you are having a "lift and hold" to improve things.....

Have some legs so giving it a regular scrub is possible I guess. Managed 12kt over ground in a narrowboat going up the Trent from Keadby. Fouling not so much an issue currently as the ducks eat it.

SIlic One is very slippery and weed, barnacles don't stick to it very well. My only concern is that the legs on your boat need to be well attached as it will slip off if relying on friction alone..... I am pulling my boat out in March and will post photos here of before/after cleaning.

haha quite amusing but what’s more amusing is the fact that you are more willing to keep shelling out on a product that needs to be applied yearly and in recent years has become less and less effective but also increasingly more expensive.

on the other hand nothing, that’s right nothing, grows on my coppercoat (could be down to sailing area, or just actually using the boat) therefore no yearly outlay for ineffectual paint and time spent applying said useless product, so far I’ve not even needed a pressure wash.

one less job for me to do this springtime
Coppercoat after 10 weeks
Boat performance seriously affected & i have already removed the 8 inch long weed from the waterline
Just been to Channel Islands & back from the Thames estuary
