So what antifoul should I be buying for use on the river Deben. I used Cruiser Uno again this year and not too impressed, not too many barnacles buts strong weed.

A very lucky year for us as the cheap as chips stuff worked, in past years we've had a grim time of it. The white waterline stuff was rubbish though.

I've only used Flag antifoul on the Deben and had no problems at all.

A drying mooring probably helps no end though.

The word is that it has been a really bad year on the Deben for excessive weed growth - I know our boat is considerably worse than the last two seasons so I will be talking to the boat yard for recomendations for next year (they did say white was the colour with the least growth!) - I will post on this site when I get some feedback.

Dark colours are normally best
each year there are different conditions & the best is always hindsight

This year I used Tiger Extra White over Extra White Hard Racing, but still got a hundred or so of those brush-like growths special to the Deben in 8 weeks.
Had a midweek blow off at SYH, but had weed round the waterline back in 2 weeks and this last weekend it was about 2 inches long. Plus the normal slime of course. And I have used the boat every week but one since March.

It does seem that the colours with the most copper oxide are the the most effective, so that means Red and Green. Certainly the boats at Ramnsholt with the least growth seem to be painted with red antifoul so thats got to be the way to go next year.

At the SIBS I spoke to the blokes on the Jotun stand and one of their Superyacht antifouls may be the way to go, although the downside is it only comes in 20 L tins!

IIRC someone on here mentioned a superyacht antifoul sold by Dauntless at Canvey island. Anyone know who makes and how much it is?

I used the red Uno and had loads of the Deben brush things. Strange thing is how easily they knock off but water flow has little effect.

Why is it that we can put a vehicle on Mars , have technological breakthroughs at least once a week ( or so it seems) and yet no one has come up with a decent Antifoul to keep boats weed free for say 7 mths ?

I know some will talk about copper coat but that is probably beyond the pocket of most weekend sailors ....

My boat has been afloat about 10 wks and has weed hanging off it longer that the grass in my back garden

When we were at Shotley Tiger Xtra worked very well, no growth after a year. One time we didn't use the boat for some time in the Summer and she grew a bit of a beard around the waterline, soon brushed off though.

Still using it here in the Nene, but nothing grows in the brown soup they call a river anyway :D

In the past I have tried Tiger cruising and extra, no real joy. I used to put it down to the clinker plank lands trapping mud but now with a Tupperware boat it's just the same.
