Has anybody successfully antifouled directly over a copper antifoul with Seajet antifoul? Just interested to know whether there were any problems - adhesion, application etc. Did you use a primer and/or create a manual key before applcation? Copper after all is only epoxy so I can't imagine that there should be problems?

thanks in advance

slightly different situation, i put teflon international on a few years ago (got a job lot), everybody said would have to do all sorts of things, i didnt, i just slapped on el cheapo with no prep (screwfix) but interesting when they jet wash on lifting, most of the old stuff comes off to the teflon base so am not getting a build up now!!

I looked at doing this a few years ago and was recommended to put primer on before the a/f

In the event I stuck to copper so can't be be sure if it would work or not.

hi, a few years ago I applied Blakes Tiger antifouling over the existing "Copperbot" without any problems as far as I know, however, I sold the boat a couple of years later. I don't know if that helps.

I've read many times, that to get a good adherence to epoxy, it should be "activated" by sanding it. This goes for adding additional epoxy as well as for painting. I have no actual experience, although we put on AF directly on copperbot without much problems.

you could apply a conventional A/F over epoxy or similar type coatings but adhesion will be very limited possibly taking about two seasons before detachment problems will appear (depends on how rough the epoxy coating is prior to antifouling) Stress induced cracking /detachment will be visible as coating dries after lift out and removal of A/F back to the epoxy coating will be required to prevent large areas detaching and falling off.
