well after reading the various remarks on coppercoat I have decided to go with traditional antifoul for next season until I do a bit more research on coppercoat

so I have just been informed my boat was done for the last couple of years by the previous owner using international interspeed ultra 2, so does anyone else use this paint and if so what do you think of it

I think I would like to stick with it then I don't have any worries regards different paints reacting with each other I can just clean the hull up properly and apply the new antifoul

cheers

In a touch of irony I have just done the opposite. Boat now copper coated - no more antifouling (I hope!)
However I used to use Interspeed Ultra in the UK and found it very good. So probably a good choice to continue with it.

Boat has just been lifted after 18 months in the water, had 2 coats of interspeed and very pleased with results. Only a thin layer of slime - no barnacles or growth.

Been using it since the boat was new and always had very good results.

My current boat has had Ultra on it since 2007 , I think it was what I used in 2002 onwards on my previous boat; no barnacles, little weed. I went for the cheaper option in in 2009 to see if there was a difference ( EU45) nowhere near as good.

I've used Interspeed Ultra also for the last six years and think it's amazing. A bit like Matt341, our boat was lifted after 15months solid, and there was also just slime (hardly even visible) but nothing else - so seems perfect and worth the extra money...my only concern is that it's a 'hard' antifoul I believe so in theory the thickness will be building up on the hull over the years.

I guess Ultra 2 is the new version....and I haven't used this yet.

BTW the boat's berthed at Port Solent but not sure if that's good or bad ref growth buildup.

I have used International Optima for the last 20 years or so on various boats and it appears to be the best performing antifoul for Guernsey waters, at a premium cost, previously on boats up to 25 knots current boat 19.5 cruise and it works better over a 12 month period than CC and other Antifouls I monitor.

Last spring I applied the new International WA ( Water Activated Matrix, whatever that is ?) but I have not lifted it yet to see how it has fared.

With this paint would i be better with 1 or 2 coats some epople in my marina say they do 1 coat every year i was thinking i would need 2 coats though, but i dont want to get a thick build up of paint over the next few years

One good coat is ok, with 2 or more on the waterline. This is the area of most growth, as the sunlight and oxygen have the greatest impact. If we ever see sun again in the UK.

A quiet marina is low growth but a swinging marina with slop where the boat rolls on the mooring is greater oxygenation and the weed grows faster.
